Experiencing the Dublin nightlife

As time went by, nightfall occurred. The Dublin nightlife is world famous. I was so excited to be able to experience it in person. I went to temple bar because that is the place where to stay in Dublin. Temple Bar has everything and it’s really like the party area of Dublin. There always something going on in Temple Bar. Usually, this is the place people talk about when they say the Irish know how to party. While staying in Dublin, make sure to get a hotel or an apartment near this area. There are a lot of hotels near temple bar Dublin. You will not regret it!!

Started walking around further into the temple bar district. I was expecting louder music; however, this was a Sunday night. Most people where probably getting ready for work the next day. It was still lively though! There were a lot college students and people of all ages. Since the drinking age in Dublin Ireland is 18. Some of the best clubs in Dublin are here. With the clubs and bars not closing until 2 am, there is plenty of time to party. Of course, I didn’t do any of this. My party days are over. Call me boring, I think partying until I drop is unhealthy.  Ever dropped and fell on your face, it’s a not fun  experience.

Walked by several gay clubs and bars. After traveling to so many places, I tend to forget how open-minded Europe can be.  I can imagine how hard it is to be gay in the middle east. The fear they must face everyday. Never really notice gay clubs and bars on my travels because that is not my scene.  What stood out to me was seeing middle-eastern men holding hands and kissing each other so openly. Somewhat blew my mind. I have traveled to several Muslim countries, seeing what I just saw in Dublin would not be okay in Oman or Yemen. I was happy for them, I’m sure they must had faced a lot of hardships. I’m a straight man, there is not a lot of things I have to worry about when I travel. Expect racism but, majority of the locals only see me as the color of money. Compared to gay travelers, I have it easy.  Going with the theme of this city, I’m sure all the best gay clubs and bars in Dublin are in the temple bar neighborhood. So if you are into that, you will find a lot of options here.

Dublin is so beautiful at night! Walking around without a purpose, you will find something to do. The small alleyways have restaurants or ice cream shops that might be overlooked. Temple bar at night is very safe. I never once felt at risk. Truly suggest you all to come here when you get the chance. It is worth the flight. The people at night even have smile on their faces. Very different compared to American cites!

Found a bar with not a lot of people in it. Sat down and had a few drinks to myself. I love taking in and people watch. Everybody was just happy to be around others. No traditional Irish music here. This bar wasn’t made for tourists. It was made for the locals. There were no fights, no one wanting to be that person who got kicked out.  Everybody was just enjoying themselves. No Irish stereotypes allowed. The atmosphere here was to release stress and have fun with friends. The night to me, couldn’t end any better. Got back and slept like a baby!

Arriving at Yellow Crane Tower, Wuhan China pre corona virus

After a long and confusing journey, I finally made it to the Yellow Crane Tower. Well, the entrance anyways. When you get there, the first thing you notice are all the traditional Chinese architecture. Believe or not, Wuhan is a very modern city. You don’t really see much of the traditional buildings around the city. You might see them as landmarks but not as normal everyday buildings. Wuhan can be mistaken as any major city in the USA. To me, the city of Wuhan kind of looks like a flat San Francisco mixed with Chicago.

20191207_2301117113035627007773253.jpg
Tourist map of the Yellow Crane River photo courtesy of Hugo Morel

Once at the entrance, you are greeted by a Chinese lion. Fun fact, lions never lived in China. They only heard of them from their trades with the Persians and Indians. To the Chinese, lions means strength and superiority. The statues were used for scaring off evil spirits and harmful people. The male Lion was always shown to be with a ball and the female lion with her cubs. The lion statues were usually used for imperial Chinese places and tombs.

The entrance fee is about 12 usa dollars per person. They also offer river rides for an additional cost. The river tour is on the Yangtze River. The Yangtze River is actually the second largest river in the world. Only behind the Nile river, the Yangtze River is a world wonder.  It starts in Shanghai and passes through Wuhan. After Wuhan, the river continues further into China.  So if you have the time, I would recommend going on that tour. It would be an experience of a lifetime. Of course, travel to Wuhan after the virus has been controlled!

A cat in an alley photo courtesy of Hugo Morel

You aren’t allowed to bring luggage or big bags in. I had to put my bag in a holding office for a fee. Also, forget about bathrooms. It’s literally a hole in the ground with no toilet paper. Tons of fun..

As I was getting ready to walk up the steps, I found a little cat hiding. In facts, I saw a few cats running around. Animals just put a smile on my face! Tried to petting the little one but it wouldn’t let me. It just kept meowing with it’s baby voice. If sneaking a cat on airplane wasn’t so hard, I might’ve brought the little one with me. I would be that weird person smuggling animal in my luggage. Sadly, this is actually a thing. A lot people smuggle live animals in their carry on and even in their pockets.

The pond at the yellow crane tower entrance photo courtesy Hugo Morel

Once I got over the steps, you are greeted with a pond. I saw Chinese people from every part of the country. Saw some that looked Muslim. I found out later than Wuhan has a Muslim community. They are minorities to the Han Chinese. The Uighur Muslims is what they are called. Uighur Muslims are a Turkic ethic group. The Chinese government has been criticized heavily for putting the Muslim minorities into working camps and reprogramming schools. However, the guy I saw was extremely peaceful. He had the brightest smile. I knew what was happening to the Muslim community in China then. Seeing this guy smiling peacefully made me smile as well. It went to show you, even with all the negativity there is always a reason to smile bright. Currently what is happening now in Wuhan, I’m sure this guy is at peace.

10 things to do in Idaho falls

Now, Idaho is a state that is not many people talk about outside of the USA. It’s really a state that people fly over or visit, if they have family there. When you mention Idaho these question always arrives, What is there to do in Idaho? Or What is there to do in Idaho Falls? Well, this post will show you there are a lot of fun and cheap “things” to do in Idaho Falls. Which will be our main focus in the beautiful state of Idaho.

1) Yellowstone National Park

Oh yeah, Yellowstone National Park is not too far away. Although the park is mainly in Wyoming, a few hours drive can get you to see this beautiful park. This is a place I always wanted to go but never had a chance. Actually been to Idaho a few times, just to Boise, Idaho. As you can guess, I really want to go back to this part of the USA. I mean just look at that yellow rock!!! In all seriousness though, I have been wanting to go this park since I was a kid. So, this is definitely going on my bucket list.

2) Visiting the Idaho Brewing Company

I’m not much of a beer junkie but I know there are few of them out there. If you would like to have place to just relax and drink some beer, The Idaho Brewing company is the spot. Located in the city of Idaho Falls, it’s hard to miss. I’m sure every local knows where this place is! Known for it’s in house tap beer and it’s friendly atmosphere, you will truly enjoy your time there.

3) Visiting Grand Teton National Park

As you can probably tell, Idaho falls has a lot of nature to visit and explore. The grand Teton National Park is no different. Located about a 2 hour drive from Idaho Falls, seeing this park in person is definitely worth it. The views look like they come from a movie. Teton national park really shows the beauty of America’s natural landscape. With the white capped mountains, it’s hard not to fall in love with this place!

4) Taking a ghost walk tour

Yeah, this isn’t really my thing. However, if you don’t mind the possibility of bringing a ghost back as a souvenir, you should definitely check this tour out. The tour goes around downtown Idaho falls. The city of Idaho falls is rich with history and this is an interesting way to learn. With the paranormal traveling on the rise, might as well put this on your list. Here is the link to a company that offers these type of tours.  *warning* We will not be held responsible for any ghosts you bring into your life. Not all of them are like Casper the friendly one.

5) Stopping Snake river escape rooms

I never knew what an escape room was. Growing up, I always thought escape rooms were places people go when they are running from the zombie apocalypse or the police. Never thought it was some type of adult game room. What is an escape room? Well, I asked the same question myself. Escape rooms are rooms where people play a game of finding clues, solving puzzles and accomplishing tasks within a certain amount of time. It’s a fun and wholesome way of spending your time in Idaho falls.

6) Take a tour of St. Anthony Sand Dunes

Oh you never heard about Idaho having Sand Dunes. Well, don’t worry about it because we didn’t as well. Google really opens your mind! About a 40 minute drive from Idaho Falls, these sand dunes will leave you speechless. It will make you think you are in the middle of Qatar or in the Sahara. Totally worth the trip.

7) Seeing the Japanese Pavilion

A great and cheap way to visit Asia in the Midwest is going to the Japanese pavilion in Idaho falls. Get a taste of japan with the Japanese style buildings and gardens.  Located on a island in snake river by the Broadway Bridge, step into a land very far away but in the backyard of Idaho. It open 24/7 year round, great place to be if you enjoy Japanese culture.

8) Giant Eagle Waterfall Nest

In the middle of a roundabout you will find a landmark like no other. The tourist attraction are eagles flying over a waterfall, I haven’t seen much tourist attractions like that. Where an artificial waterfall is in the middle of cars. It’s pretty cool to see of front and take photos from Instagram, at least what my friends told me. I enjoy the uniqueness of the landmark. So, I wouldn’t mind stopping by when I’m there.

9) Walk along Snake River Greenbelt

Walk along the snake river greenbelt and the see the history of Idaho Falls. It’s a six mile walk alongside snake river. It’s is a great way to get some exercises while on traveling. The river used to be the main highway for the city. It was used to get into Montana and other nearby states. It’s the main reason why the city was established. The river eventually turns into waterfalls. Which is how the city got it’s name. Truly a great way to see the natural beauty of Idaho. Also, it’s free. Enough said, right?

10) See Hell’s Half Acre Lava Field

Located not too far way from Idaho Falls, lays a lava field that looks like it comes from a star wars movie.  The Hell’s Half Acre Lava field is truly a beauty to see in person. The national natural landmark was created by a lava lake few thousands years ago. It’s worth seeing because it almost looks like you are in another planet like mars. The beauty the earth hold has no limit.

Well there you all go, hope this post changed your mind about Idaho Falls. There is a lot of reason to book a flight to this city. This part of the USA has a lot to offer from sand dunes to it’s lush rivers. Idaho falls has it all.  Truly, worth booking that flight to this part of Idaho!

Visiting St. Patrick’s cathedral in Dublin and learning about the Saint

“Yes, this is that St. Patrick’s Cathedral,” said the security guard. I must had sounded so out of place when I asked, “If this is the famous St. Patrick’s Cathedral or is this a replica?” Well, I’m sure you all know that this is the world famous cathedral. When I was in Dublin, I thought this was just another church named after the saint. Kind of like the one in Midtown Manhattan. Funny fact, my friend was having an event at that the Manhattan St. Patrick’s Cathedral in the middle of summer once. It was about 94 degrees outside (34 Celsius), I just came back from a trip to Argentina. When I had my bags checked, the security guard saw my winter coat. He asked me,”Are you coming from the North Pole or are you one of those New York weirdos?” Two times when I seemed out of place, both ironically in the Cathedral named after the same guy.

There is an entrance fee to get inside this church, I think it was about 10 usa dollars. The fee is used to maintain the place. It’s good to know that my money is going to good use. Once inside, you are engulfed by all the patterns on the floor and the colors of the windows. One thing about catholic churches, they are usually very beautiful. I was speechless at how much effort was put into building this visually appealing place.

The atmosphere just felt peaceful. Everybody was having a good time. It is somewhat easy to just spend hours in this place and lose track of time. With every turn, lays another beautifully painted glass window or arches that together look like a masterpiece. I had giant smile on my face.

Every Glass window tells a different biblical story. Growing up catholic, you tend to take these things for granted. Been to Buddhist temples, mosques and Hindu temples. They all have their own standard/style of beauty. With mosques, the Persian and Berber/Moorish styles tend to have the most breathtaking patterns. Buddhist temples tend to have beautiful statues with incredible architecture. The Hindu temples are so colorful and otherworldly charming. However, none pull my heartstrings like the catholic churches. There is just so brings so much nostalgia. The way the windows are painted just remind me of my childhood. Even though, I was asleep most of time during Sunday mass as a kid. I was the kid that kept getting pinched at church for sleeping. Regardless of how I feel, you really have to appreciate how humanity shows their love towards their religion through art and architecture.

British flags in the cathedral to remind the world where St Patrick was born photo courtesy of Hugo Morel

So some of you are wondering, “Who was St Patrick?” “What was St Patrick known for?” “Where was St Patrick born?” “Was Saint Patrick real?” His story is very interesting. Where St. Patrick was actually born was somewhere in Roman Britain. Scholars are not too sure of exactly where. He was one day captured by Irish pirates. Forced into slavery and became a shepherd. During his years as a slave, the saint became a christian. He eventually heard a voice in his head saying he should run away. He followed that voice and escaped from his master. The saint eventually returned to his family. After some time, he saw a vision and went back to Ireland to spread Christianity. Which he eventually converted many Irish to believe in his faith.  He later became a priest that lead the Christian community in Ireland. How did St Patrick died is actually something we all have to think twice about in our lives. He died of working too hard. He lived 40 years in poverty teaching and traveling to spread Christianity. The day Patrick died is actually when is St Patrick’s day is marked on everybody’s calendar. March 17 is when St Patrick passed away. Crazy thing is on St Patrick’s day 2019, I had no idea I would end up in Ireland several months later. You never truly know, what the future has in store for you.

The further you go into the cathedral, the more it leaves you in awe. This truly charming cathedral with it’s classy arches and wonderful atmosphere. It is very hard to put in words how I really felt about this place. The St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin makes all the other replicas look like horrible imitations. Nothing beats the original. Something about the one in Dublin, really captures that special feeling. It’s as if, Ireland the country put it’s heart into creating this masterpiece. Knowing that this is the place where the saint became famous and did his work. That is something that the imitators can never copy. I truly suggest coming here on your trip to Dublin. I promise you will leave with a smile on your face and another level of respect for Mr. St Patty. He much more than just the drinking, partying and the St Patrick’s feast day. His legacy and what he did for Ireland is something worthy of having his own day. Truly makes you enjoy the color green in another way.

Is china communist?

Before we go explore the Yellow Crane Tower, one question I kept getting from friends and family about China is the question this post is titled as. Is china Communist? Now the answer to that question is much more than just a yes or no. It’s has layers like an onion. China is a weird mixture of capitalism and communism. First of all, I want you all to know that China is much more than just communism. I’m not writing this for the idea of that I think China is just a communist country. Like I mentioned before, China is a mixture. I want to spread light to this topic because some people in the USA and the West think China is  some kind of a rich North Korea. I want to make sure that people know what is really going on in china. For that reason, my friends in Wuhan requested that I do not show our conversations on this blog. This is to make everybody just a little more informed about this topic. So, enough of me rambling and explaining myself like I was guilty of something. Here we go!

900px-Chinese_soviet_flag.svg
china soviet flag

In my short time in China, it’s clear China is not as communist as we in the USA believe. When you are there, people live very conformable. When I compare China to Cuba, you can tell that Cuba is more communist than China. I will write a post about how the people really live and feel about living under a pure communist rule in Cuba. I didn’t write it yet out of my safety because I plan to travel to more communist countries. There are two in mind that I still have to go before I can “spill the beans.”

So going back to China’s vs Cuba’s communism, Cuba is pure communism to the core. A college professor gets paid the same as a front desk worker at a hotel. They have to live on about 20 dollars a month, according to my local friend. A taxi driver makes more money than a medical doctor because a taxi driver can charge tourists more than what is recommend by the government. Which is highly illegal but they do it anyways.  However, there have been economic reforms since I last came there in May 2019.  In Cuba, the locals also have a card that allows Cubans to get a monthly supply of food. Sometimes, it’s not enough but that’s another topic. While in China, a kid that works at a fast food place can start up a company called Alibaba. The CEO will not get paid the same as his/hers employees. From what I saw, there was no one in line at the supermarkets and shops waiting for their monthly supply of food. Everything is bought with a supply and demand without an equal share mentality. Very different than Cuba.

1280x720_20719B00-FYPAX1
China’s and Russia’s flag

Now, comparing China’s vs Russia’s communism things get more complicated. China and Russia ( once known as the former soviet union) were once very similar. It wasn’t until the after the death of Joseph Stalin, that the Soviet Union wanted to be less oppressive to the common people. In other words, Russians didn’t want to be ruled under such a controlling government.  China disagreed with Russia’s new ideals. China wanted to keep control of the general masses. Which in some forms, still goes on today. Currently, Russia is moving more towards a capitalistic economy like China. However, China kept it’s iron rule over the people. Meanwhile, Russia became less aggressive but still had some control over the lives of people.

Which now goes into the question that I keep getting asked. China is communist in the way they control the way the general masses think. They do not want the Chinese people to think negatively about their government.  Religion is allowed  but the holy scriptures like the Quran or the Bible have to be modified to fit their narrative. If one is caught with original copies, that person can go to jail for a long time or be sent to reprogram schools. Which is now currently happening to the Muslim community in China. The government wants order and people to be in that order. No chaos just order. So freedom of speech is not so free in China.  There is a program that China has been pushing for. It is called a social credit. Instead of having a score based on the financial decisions you made. This social credit will be based on your good deeds. If you do something bad, your score will go down. You will not have the same privileges as someone who has a high scorer. In other words, the Chinese government will be watching over you 24/7. This is where China starts becoming communist. Through the country’s control of it’s people. For that reason, I do not feel safe sharing my conversations with friends I met in Wuhan. I do want them to have more issues than they already facing.

ps. I love the Chinese people and their culture. China is much more than the communist party. Once things calm down, I will definitely go there again.

pss. The death toll has risen to 1,400. All we can do for them is to pray and hope their souls are in peace. Please remember, life is a gift and not a right. Make sure you tell your close ones how much you care about them.

Blog update! There will be more content being pushed out on Tuesdays around noon. It will be about travel hacks, travel tips and showing love to places not many people think of traveling to. Hopefully, we can convince you all to go to some of the places someday!

Taking a breather at St. Patrick’s Park

On the outside of the world famous cathedral, lays a very elegant park. One that might get over looked if you not careful. The St. Patrick’s Park has a charm that is hard to match. A sense of peace mixed with a classic atmosphere. No crazy person running around asking for hamburgers or something. It is truly a place for a quick breather from the urban Dublin.

When you first come into the park, it’s hard not to get distracted by the cathedral being on the right hand side of the entrance. Luckily for me, I saw a beautiful display of nature and I had to take a look. If you have been reading this blog for a while, I’m sure you know that I love going with the flow. You notice things more that you might had overlooked because you were so focused on the destination. A wise man once said, ” It’s about the journey and not the destination.” That is something I believe more people should take to heart. In the short life I have lived, the more I was happy with the process or journey, the more I valued the people around me and enjoyed things most people often overlook. It’s better to live in the moment, than to live in the what could be. Just trusting the process let’s all the stress disappear. Even in hard times, gives you a reason to smile brightly.  Which is the reason why I love going to parks.

The further I walked into St. Patrick’s park, the more I saw what I came here for. The way nature is displayed and placed, I almost forgot about any negative thoughts. The peace this park displayed made me jealous. I wish New York could have more peace in their parks. Sadly, there is constantly a white background noise that is a result of all the chaos going around. Can’t be mad at that, since that also gives New York City it’s charm. However, despite Dublin being one of the largest cities in the E.U (even with brexit, Dublin is a City in the E.U). This city’s doesn’t have a strong background noise presence. You hear birds chirping like at the time of sunrise. The noise of birds dominating the airways because most people are still asleep. The type of feeling you get in rural areas. For a minute, I forgot I was in the Irish capital.

St. Patrick’s cathedral photo courtesy of Hugo Morel

The history of this park is very interesting. It is believed that this is the site where St. Patrick baptized the first Irish Christians. So, it’s the place where Christianity was believed to have started in Ireland. I had no idea about the importance of the place when I was there. I swear, I really need to research the places I go to. It would gave anybody a better level of appreciation of the place they travel to. Sometimes, I feel like I’m taking travel for granted.

The beautiful garden at the park photo courtesy of Hugo Morel

I sat on the bench and people watched. I was comparing the two cultures of the USA and Ireland. The Irish in Dublin are just more cheerful and easy going. I truly enjoy the atmosphere of Dublin. People here are so friendly. Couldn’t wait to see more of this city and of Ireland. Of course, St. Patrick’s cathedral was calling for me.  Luckily, I was not too far away.

Wuhan, China pre-coronavirus: On the journey to find the yellow crane tower part 2

The further one goes into this park in Wuhan, the more you are reminded of China’s Communist past. One of the cool things about going into parks are the statues. The historical meaning of them have always made my inner nerd happy (yeah, I got an inner nerd….so what?). I truly wished I could had read Mandarin at the time I was here. I would loved to have know what these statues meant.

Being an outsider in a forgien country is always interesting. However, being an outsider that doesn’t speak nor read the local language is a whole other experience. You can only really guess what the signs mean. In order to survive, you have to learn to adapt and read people. It’s a skill that everybody should learn! These survivor skills have helped me in so many ways. I have gotten out of some diffcult situations because I read the energy people were throwing out. Put me any where in the world and I will survive.

Kind of got lost while looking for this “epic” landmark google told me to go. Nothing wrong with the landmark, I was just annoyed about google knowing where I was going. To the point, I had a few notifications from the “know it all” empire. It’s like they are saying, “hey, we know where you going at all times because we got you on a gps.”

Anways, started asking people where this yellow crane tower was. I kept getting pointed to the same direction. I was surprised at how well some of the locals knew how to speak English. The others that didn’t just pointed. It’s really crazy how warm and welcoming the Chinese were to me. To be blunt, I was expecting some form hostility. Not even from the immigration officers at the airport, not once was I treated with disrespect. I’m sure you all can understand why I feel the way I do. Hearing about the virus on the news is one thing; however, meeting the people effected in a warm light can really cause conflicting emotions.

After some time, I eventually found this statue. Once again, my feeling of wanting to read the local langague pop out. There was a level of disconnect. I felt this before in other countries. If only humans didn’t have to sleep, imagine the possibilities of learning.

The area where the statue is located was a square. Looked like a lovely place to just relax and let the minutes pass by. It was calm like people didn’t have a care in the world. An atmosphere some people around the world can only dream of. Makes me wonder how the park looks like now during the civil unrest.

Kept walking and I found this entrance. It looks like some type of museum. I loved how the flag looked. One of the people that told me where to go, tapped my back and waved no. Well, more gestured no. She pointed me to the right direction. After about 2 mins, it was clear I found the yellow crane tower.

Ps: Update on some of the friends I met here. So right now, they are doing fine. Worried but they are doing fine. Currently, there is a civil unrest. The people of Wuhan feeling like they are not being told the truth about the media. There has been alot of push back on censorship. They are speaking through social media before the government can censor. This started because a doctor died from the censorship. He was told to be quiet about it. For you want to read more about this here is the link.

A step through time at Dublin’s Castle

In the heart of Dublin lays a governmental building on dame street. The history that these walls have seen is astounding. Never been someone who likes monarchs; however, I was convinced to come here by a few local I met. Main reason why I came here is to see the Irish history in person.

When you first come into the Dublin castle area, you will notice a few gift shops. Didn’t bother going in them because I’m  sure the prices are on the tourist trap side. There is another gift inside the castle that you can visit. They sell generic touristic items like key-chains and magnets.  The other store outside the castle sold crystals and fine china. Things that would cost me more money to bring them back home. Imagine bring a large crystal on a trip to the USA and being stopped by a security guard at the airport. They check your bags and they find this giant rock of a substance they are not sure of. I’m a Hispanic of African descent, it’s best not to let them think I’m smuggling some new type of drug. Besides a few small crystals on necklaces or bracelets, I’m not going to take that risk.

The whole outside of the castle really gave me that old age feel. During the times knights, dragons and wizards were a part of everybody’s daily lives.  You could almost hear the classic Irish music  playing as you walk around. Makes you wonder how many people passed by here. Picture the battles that were fought to maintain these walls. I mentioned this before, I wish we could have a time machine to travel back into the past. Where you can see the events happen in real time. One could dream right?

I kept mentioning the history of the Dublin castle without actually explaining it. So, this castle was built when Ireland was on under the English rule. During the times of King John of England in 1204. Later being completed in 1230, this castle has been used as a governmental building. Even today, this is where the president of Ireland holds his meetings.

Once inside, you have to leave your bags and purses in a locker. You will have to pay to get in the castle. There are no videos allowed in the castle. You are allowed to take photos of course. Just remember to have the flash off.

The photo above is the state dining room, also know as the picture gallery. I’m guessing because people take a lot of photos here. This is actually the oldest part of castle. It was the only room to escape the many fires over the years. Also, it has never gotten any major modifications. Meaning,  it has kept it’s original decorations. Truly, it’s like stepping in time.

Now, the picture above is the State Drawing Room.  I have no idea who the people in the picture were. I just knew they were important to the Irish history. Sadly, most of this room was destroyed by a fire in 1941. It was reconstructed in 1968, this room is probably one of the newest in the castle. Once a reception room for the king at the time, now foreign dignitaries use it.

What is a castle without a throne? An expensive mansion? The pictures above are the thrones I have found on my trip throughout the castle. I was expecting more to be honest. I guess movies have influenced my mental picture of what a throne should be. I was expecting a bigger chair with tons of gold on it. The one on the right is in the throne room. Apparently, this was built for King George IV’s visit to Ireland in 1821.

The throne on the left, I found in St. Patrick’s Hall. Which is the biggest room in the castle. It has a blue carpet on the floor. So, it’s hard to miss. I read this is the throne for the president of Ireland.  Always cool to look at in person. When you are in Ireland, I definitely recommend taking a visit. It will be worth the money!

Thank you so much for reading! Much love and safe travels!

Ps. Got in contact with a few friends I met in Wuhan, China. Will explain it in Wednesday’s post!

An Inside look of Wuhan, China pre-coronavirus: On the journey to find the yellow crane tower

After looking like a crazy lost tourist, I was able to make some new friends at Starbucks. Looking back, it kind of hurts to think that these kind people are probably in a hospital now. It’s crazy how everything can change in such a short time. I was here in December 2019. Fast forwarded a month into the future and the corona-virus took over. It’s really sad to think about. However, getting back into the story, my new friends gave me directions and sites to see in Wuhan. They were surprised to see someone that looks like me in this part of china. I was seeing a pattern, I started to noticed they do not get travelers from all over the world here. The more time I spent in this central Chinese city, the more I enjoyed it. I’m just lost for words at how nice the people were to foreigners. Especially me being an american citizen, did not expect this type of treatment.

Following the directions of my new friends, I ended up in a commercial strip. Saw stores from all over the world. Brands, I was familiar with and others not so much. As shown in the picture above, you can see a lot of local stores take inspiration from American brands. It’s really hard to believe this is a “communist” china. I even saw people openly wearing cross necklaces and the Muslim hats called kufi. China is not like what the media tells us. I keep getting told that most Chinese have to be atheist. From just looking around, I see that people practice religion here. To what level of freedom, I will explain in another post.

Got back on the subway, the original subway worker that I asked directions from. It looks like what she said got lost in translation. I ended missing the stop I was supposed to go. It wasn’t that bad because it was only like two stops away. I followed the poster pointing to what exit I should take. As seen above, everything was in Mandarin. Expect for some reason, the word “exit” was translated. I guess they want tourist like me to figure out the yellow crane tower might possibly be that way.

Got out of the underground and I was taken to the front of a park. I really wished I knew what these signs meant. They looked very important. Luckily, there were pictures of what not to do on the right. Still, the red banner made me wonder. Are they saying, “we don’t like Americans!” Or maybe, “All Americans eat cheeseburgers and french fries for breakfast!” Jokes aside, it could be government propaganda or just stating the park’s name. Which, I still do not know the name of this place. If any of you can read Mandarin, please let me know what the banner says. It would be greatly appreciated.

Art- I have no idea what that means photo courtesy of Hugo Morel

Walked more into the park, everybody seemed at easy and stress-less. I’m sure a complete 180 degree to the current events happening right now. Still, it’s hard to believe how peaceful everything was. Old people watching the birds and kids running around without a care in the world. Everybody was just enjoying their day. An atmosphere, I just had to sit down and enjoy. For once on my recent trip around Asia, I felt relax. No one wanted to scam me and no one harassing me. Wuhan, China isn’t so bad, it’s actually very enjoyable. I just hope everything calms down, so that you all can experience this someday.

The beautiful nature photo courtesy of Hugo Morel

The one thing that stood out to me about china is the natural beauty. You see it on the subway. The leaves and plants look so beautiful. I always thought China was nothing but apartment buildings and packed streets. So far, I have been wrong! Couldn’t wait to see what else China had to offer.

Getting around Dublin’s Temple Bar

After a long deserved sleep, I woke up with tons of energy. It was time for me to see what Dublin was really about. Got dressed and I was out the door. One of the staff, at the hostel I was staying, told me to visit Temple bar first. Since, the hostel was just a ten minute walk away.

When I finally got to Temple bar, a big smile found it’s way on my face. This was the Ireland I pictured going to. The Irish music blasting from the nearby pubs mixed with sounds of the locals having a good time. Now this was Ireland and I wouldn’t traded for anything in the world. This moment was perfect. For those who don’t know, I always enjoyed the Irish people. I have an uncle who is Irish and Italian. I remember the stories he used to tell me about his family in Ireland. Everything around me at that moment reminded me of my childhood memories of him. He was really kind to me as a kid and all I did was caused him headaches. We all had that stage growing up. It was called the teenage years. I’m sure we can all look back at them and shake our heads in embarrassing. It’s crazy, I was never really excited about going to Ireland before this trip. I’m glad that my experiences in Ireland slowly changed my mind.

Started walking further into this touristic Dublin neighborhood, until I noticed that people were drinking. It was about 10:45 am at the time I started exploring. People here were already drinking this early. Dublin really gives that party atmosphere. If I was here back in my early 20’s, I’m sure I wouldn’t have left the pubs. They seem like the hangout spot for people here. Also, I really enjoyed how the signs were in English and Gaelic. Shows that the Irish are proud of their history. Which is something I want to share on a later post.

Going around Temple bar, you sense the relax and chill atmosphere. Completely different than limerick, Dublin just makes you feel at ease. Didn’t feel that threat of being jumped or attacked. This feeling is something you don’t feel in most American cities. Everybody here did not have that tense look on them. People here were focused but not in a rush to get their destination.

I know I just did a time skip with the photo above; however, I had to show you all a sneak peek of how temple looks at night. I can see why people really enjoyed the Irish capital. Next week, we will go to the Dublin castle!
