Going to Siena, Italy is like stepping into a time machine. All of the markets and alleyways have been the same since medieval times.

Walking through the streets of this city, you really feel that you are in Europe. I have not been to a city more European than this. Most of the major cities in Europe have been tainted by globalization. Here in Siena, it’s as Italian as you can get.

Although, many of the markets were obsessed with selling Assassin’s Creed gear. Guess they were proud that the games’ setting, at that time, were in Italy. Haha 😆

The more you explore, the harder it is to not fall in love with the atmosphere. Everything is relaxed and at a slower pace. Complete opposite of the all the cities in the USA. Also, all the Italian food you want!!

One thing you will notice throughout the city is this statue of a wolf with two human babies. At the time of me being in Siena, I had no idea what those statues meant. I had to research to find out that it was linked to roman mythology. According to the legend, Siena was founded by Senius and Aschius, two sons of Remus. Remus is one of the babies that is on the statue. Remus was one of the twins that founded Rome and were taken in by a she-wolf. When Senius and Aschiue fled Rome, they took the statue of the she-wolf to Siena. It eventually became the symbol of the city.

Well I just googled it and it’s an overseas territory. Not any time soon. I plan to go to Antarctica first then that afterwards

I visited this city many times from the 80’s to the 90’s. My husband’s family lives in Tuscany and other parts of Italy. I haven’t been back for many years but looking at your photos I can see it hasn’t changed. It is also one of my favorite cities. Great post and photos, thanks for sharing.

My husband and I visited there a few years ago. it was really a lovely town with so many interesting things to see. I loved wandering through the narrow sloped streets and exploring the Piazza del Campo where they hold the Paleo Horse Race. Glad you got to enjoy it too!
Yes I did! I also heard about the horse races but we we’re just there for a day. Unfortunately, we were in a rush

I hope some day you can travel to Frankenmuth Michigan – a little Christmas village year round with the world’s largest Christmas store, Bavarian restaurants, horse drawn carriages and many little shops.. I hope some spring or summer you will check out the beautiful waterfalls in the upper peninsula or nearby Macinac- especially Macinac Island. Anyway I really am enjoying your posts- I especially love your photos.

Loved the caffe ice cream in Siena!
This is one of my favourite medieval towns in Italy. It is cosy and history is at every corner. I loved it when I visited it in 2015. Pity I could not see the main church because there were ongoing restoration works.
Yeah, I was truly surprised at how beautiful the city was. Definitely go back! Sienas church is very interesting
